Welcome to Christian CARE

About us

Christian CARE is a charity working in the London Borough of Merton, committed to the relief of poverty within this borough. We are a group of 60 volunteers, many from churches of different denominations across Merton, who want to show care and concern for our neighbours as Jesus did. We are supported by churches, schools, women’s groups and many individuals in the Borough and across the UK. We welcome and offer help to anyone whatever their race, colour or religion. Each year we support around 100 families whose lives are in crisis.

Mayor’s Charities

We were honoured to be chosen by the new Mayor of Merton, Councillor Slawek Szczepanski, as one of the two charities he will be supporting, the other being University College London Hospitals Charity’s research into Glioblastoma. We look forward to his year of events.

It is a great pleasure to announce that Gillian Thick, recently retired from Christian CARE after 46 years of volunteering in many roles, was one of 11 people recognised for the Eric Leppard Lifetime Achievement Award for dedicating more than 20 years’ service to the community at the Merton Connected - Merton Partnership Civic Pride Volunteer Awards 2024, which was held at Wimbledon AFC on 7th June.

Children’s and Families’ Activities Coordinator

Could YOU be the advocate for the children in the charity? When families are struggling with poverty, the children often feel different because they lack so much that their peers take for granted. With the support of your committed team of 4 volunteers and other occasional helpers, you would make sure that each of the children had a present for Christmas and that their birthdays were remembered. You would open up opportunities for a day outing, a party, a theatre visit and, maybe for some, a summer activities camp place. You would liaise with the other Coordinators to ensure holistic, practical caring was at hand to ensure that urgent needs were met throughout the year, for example for clothes and school uniforms.

This is a most rewarding role where you can share the joy of the families, experience the camaraderie of your fellow volunteers and see the immediate impact of your work.

Complaints Procedure

The Christian Care Association is committed to providing the best possible service to all with whom it comes into contact - clients, supporters, volunteers and organisations. If any Christian CARE Association action or failure to act has had an adverse effect on you, you have a right to complain. Usually a word with the person concerned will suffice should a problem arise. However, we recognise that from time to time there may be occasions where clients, supporters, volunteers or organisations feel that the quality of service falls short of what they could reasonably expect. We want to know about these occasions so that we can resolve the problem and plan to avoid its repetition.

For complaints specifically related to a breach of data privacy, see our Privacy Policy.

For further information please contact our Honorary Secretary.
