We have a number of varied, exciting and rewarding roles to offer you. If you have time to spare, and would like to help those in need in your community, please contact us and see how you can make a difference to their lives.

Deputy CARE Coordinator

As the work of Christian CARE is growing, we are creating an important new role of Deputy CARE Coordinator to share with the CARE Coordinator in the management of the charity, which reaches out into the local community with a vision to make a caring response to those for whom life is a struggle against poverty. You would be taking a lead within the planning team of 6 Coordinators, helping to oversee the 6 Projects which combine in different ways to transform in small ways the lives of needy local families. You would be sharing responsibility for the teams of volunteers involved, to ensure that they were seeing their work to be effective and rewarding.

Children’s Activities Coordinator

Following the unexpected resignation of the Children’s Activities Coordinator due to ill health after 5 years of creative and imaginative leadership, we are looking for a successor with a real understanding of vulnerable children and their needs. We are in close touch with almost 100 children from babies to sixth form students, among whom are a significant number with disabilities. From its foundation in 1967, Christian CARE has always focused on families and children; you would be joining us at an exciting time when the children are our key focus.

Van Drivers and Helpers for Furniture Project

The team of 7 - including the kitchenware and DIY departments - is being kept very busy with requests both for whole house furnishings and individual items. There are frequent offers of donations, even house clearances, which we need to replenish stocks. We hope to recruit another van driver and a new helper to share the load.

As we hear in the news that so many people are struggling to put food on the table, so we here in Merton are seeing more requests for Family Support – our provision of groceries, toiletries, nappies and wipes and household cleaning products. We need additional new ‘shoppers’ available to collect and deliver the bags. It is a rewarding role as you can often start to build a relationship with the family, and become a go-between for the charity.

We have been asked if we would help Afghan refugees; we are now being asked what support we would offer Ukrainian refugees. We have 15 befrienders and they are already linked with more than 20 families, so we would welcome new befrienders so that we can be prepared to extend our support to these refugees and other families who are in need of support

Office Assistant

With the work in Christian CARE increasing, it is essential that the administrative support that the Office team gives to the charity continues to be efficient and that the records and systems that we depend on continue to be developed and maintained to ensure that they run smoothly behind the scenes. Currently the Office team consists of two volunteer members. For this reason we are looking for a competent Office Assistant who can help the existing team to continue with the organisation and running of the daily administrative activities for the charity.

Drive and Drop

Do you have a car? Could you use it to help Christian CARE just once a month for an hour or two? We might ask you to deliver bags of food or toys or bedding or baby items – with a smile and a kindly word. Several of our team have had to retire due to age or Covid and we would be so pleased to have more ad hoc helpers standing by

If you would like to find out more about these rewarding volunteering opportunitites, then email or phone Gillian Thick, CARE Coordinator, gillian.thick@christiancaremerton.org.uk / 07932 628840.
